Under the new regulations, approved by the parliament in January, smoking will be banned in and around all education facilities, sporting stadiums and facilities, health centres and on all forms of public transport.
Fines for businesses that breach the new law will range from YTL500 to YTL5,000, while citizens who break the law can be fined YTL50 and a further YTL20 for dropping a cigarette butt or packet on the ground.
The ban will be extended to restaurants, cafes and coffeehouses as of July 19 next year.
