The unemployment rate for the January to March quarter stood at 11.6 percent, a 0.2 percent increase over the same period in 2007, the institute’s latest household labour survey showed.
The labour force participation rate, the measure of what percentage of the workforce is in employment, fell by 0.4 percent, dropping to 45.9 percent.
According to the institute’s report, the unemployment rate in Turkey’s urban areas was 13.4 percent and 8.5 percent in rural areas.
In total, 2.642 million members of the workforce were unemployed as of the first quarter of the year.
