Turkish deficit hits YTL 5.4 billion for first four months of 2008

Last week, the government announced that it would increase expenditure on infrastructure projects, a move that could further widen the deficit.

ANKARA - Turkey recorded a YTL (New Turkish Lira) 5.4 billion deficit for the first four months of the year, according to figures released by the Finance Ministry Tuesday.

According to the ministry, budgetary expenditure was YTL 79.2 billion between January and April, while revenues were YTL 64 billion over the same period.

However, Turkey’s non-interest surplus, the figure not taking into account interest payments as part of budgetary expenditure, between January and April was YTL 12.4 billion YTL.
