Turkish government says it will work with CB on growth targets

The Central Bank and the government appeared to be at odds over plans by the ruling AKP to loosen the purse strings and ease fiscal controls on state spending.

ANKARA - Turkey’s government will work with the country’s Central Bank to determine growth targets for the economy, Deputy Prime Minister Nazim Ekren said Wednesday.

Revision and updating of projected growth targets would take place simultaneously with the government and the Central Bank working together, Erken said during an interview on the television station NTV-CNBC-e.

“Looking at global and national numbers, it is possible to expect a growth rate of 4.5 percent,” he said.

Last weekend, the government announced plans to ease its policy of fiscal austerity, was well as lowering growth targets.
