European Union parliamentarian Joost Lagendijk, who is the co-chairperson of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliament Committee, said that neither he nor the EU considered that Turkey was moving towards Iran.
Statements attributed to him during a discussion at the annual conference of American-Turkish Council (ATC) in Washington, D.C. were not correct, he said.
“A daily wrote as if I or the EU had some fears that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) wanted to move Turkey towards Iran,” he said.
“I only wanted to point out that there are some people who have such concerns in Turkey. I think that they are wrong.”
