Passengers from grounded liner evacuated to Turkish port

KUSADASI - More than one thousand passengers from a stranded ocean liner have been evacuated and taken ashore at the Turkish Aegean port of Kusadasi Wednesday.

In total, 1029 mainly Spanish passengers from the liner Sky Wonder were taken from the stricken vessel, which ran aground at the Setur Marina while docking Tuesday.

The ship grounded as it was docking on Tuesday during a heavy gale.

Officials said the ship had suffered no mechanical or structural damage in the mishap and would be refloated soon.

Twenty-seven passengers and 567 members of the Sky Wonder’s crew elected to remain aboard the ship.
