Parliamentary speaker Koksal Toptan said Wednesday Turkey needed wise thinking, and an atmosphere of ease in order to reduce tension.
I hope Turkey will have an atmosphere of ease in coming days, he told reporters.
Tension in Turkey has been ratcheted up in recent weeks with a senior prosecutor tabling an indictment with the Constitutional Court to close the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on charges that it is trying to undermine the secular regime and government moves to ease the ban on women wearing the Islamic headscarf while attending university.
Toptan said he was not opposed to a constitutional amendment that would make the closure of a political party more difficult.
Parties should not be closed easily. I think exchange of views between the political parties on the timing, he said.
Toptan is one of 70 members of the AKP who along with President Abdullah Gul have been named in the indictment, submitted on March 14.
