HAKKARİ - Many shops and businesses in the south eastern Turkish city of Hakkari reamin closed after three days of at times violent protests, despite local officials appealing for businesses to return to normal.

Kazim Kurt, the mayor of Hakkari, on Monday went to town centre calling businesses to open their doors.

However, the call by the mayor did not lead to businesses to go back to normal since eventful Nevruz celebrations, to mark the coming of spring, resulted in the death of one person in the town of Yuksekova in the province of Hakkari.
