Addressing a meeting of AKP parliamentary deputies in Ankara prior to the opening of a behind closed doors debate on the recently concluded military operation in northern Iraq, Erdogan said Turkey had developed an advanced democracy and economy during the AK’s five and a half years in office.
“Nothing can stop us on the path to serve our people,” he said. “I believe we will pursue our democratic struggle in a mature, understanding way and within the scope of laws.”
On March 14, the chief prosecutor of the Court of Appeals applied to the Constitutional Court to have the AKP closed and 71 persons affiliated with the party banned from political activity on the grounds they and the party were seeking to subvert Turkey’s secular regime.
Party members should maintain their faith that the AKP would not allow tension to develop over the closure case, and would manage this process in the best way and with solidarity.
