The talks, scheduled to take place at the resident of the United Nations envoy Michael Moeller will be the first meeting between Talat and Christofias since the latter was elected as the leader of the Greek Cypriot administration late last month.
Efforts to broker a reunification of the two states on the island broke down in 2004 after the Greek Cypriot community rejected a UN sponsored referendum to reunite the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot states. Turkish Cypriots voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposal, with more than 75 percent of vote supporting the resolution.
An attempt to restart talks late last year proved unsuccessful.
One of the issues expected to be discussed at the meeting between Talat and Christofias is the opening of the Lokmaci Gate along the green line that separates the two communities.
