Heavy snowfalls in eastern and central Turkey Monday resulted in blocked roads and have paralysed life in many regions.
In the eastern province of Tunceli rescue services were called to same at least 25 people were trapped due to avalanche on roads leading to Erzincan and Ovacik.
Ferry services between the town of Silifke in the southern province of Mersin and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus were suspended due to poor weather conditions.
Heavy snowfall blocked some 1650 village roads in the north western provinces of Bursa and Bolu, the south eastern provinces of Gaziantep, Hakkari, Adiyaman and Kahramanmaras, the southern province of Adana and the eastern province of Agri.
However, while much of the country has been buried under snow, the skies above the south eastern city of Sanliurfa have been reddened by a dust cloud, carried by winds blowing in from the desert regions of neighbouring Syria. The dust storm has reduced visibility, slowing traffic, and raised humidity to 87 percent.
