Turkish president to fly out to US

The continuing threat posed by the terrorist group the PKK, and Turkish-US measures to combat its activities in northern Iraq, are expected to be high on the agenda of Gul’s meetings.

ANKARA - Turkish President Abdullah Gul is due to fly out to the United States today for a four day official visit, during which he will meet with his American counterpart George Bush and other senior US officials.

Gul is scheduled to meet Bush at the White House on Tuesday, and will hold a joint press conference with the US President after their talks.

Later on Tuesday he will meet with Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

On Wednesday, Gul will hold talks with US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates and meet with representatives of the Turkish community living in the US, before travelling to New York to meet United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon over a dinner.

During his visit, the Turkish President is also scheduled to meet with international investors, appear on the television network CNN International, address the US Council on Foreign Relations, and meet representatives of Jewish organizations.
