ISTANBUL - Istanbul hopes to tackle its traffic problem by introducing three zones making private vehicle and even public transport more expensive in city centres.
The scheme, which is scheduled to be implemented in 2012, requires the construction of an addition of 240 kilometres to the citys railway system.
Deputy Secretary General of the Greater Municipality of Istanbul, Rafet Bozdogan said that those travelling from outer zones leaving their vehicles in car parks near to railway stations to get to central parts would be charged less.
