| | | | The synod, convened by the Istanbul based Patriarch Bartholomew I, brings together representatives of world’s 14 main Orthodox churches to discuss the fate of Irineos I, the patriarch of Jerusalem. Irineos has come into conflict with the church over allegations that his church leased property to Jewish investors. Irineos has rejected all calls for him to resign.
Before the synod convened, the first such gathering in more than 10 years, Bartholomew offered a prayer to the Holy Spirit to give guidance to the clerics in making their decision.
