| | | | The chief executive officer of Mey Icki, Galip Yorgancioglu, announced that the firm would recall all 70 cc bottles of Yeni Raki. New stocks of the aniseed flavoured liquor would be produced with caps in a different colour to distinguish them from the old, he said.
Mey Icki’s action comes after at least 19 people died after drinking bootleg raki produced in an Istanbul car wash. A further 19 people are still being treated in hospital for the effects of the illegally produced raki, which contained up to 97 percent methol alcohol, compared to the 0.013 found in Yeni Raki. The counterfeit liquor was sold in bottles bearing the label of Turkey’s most famous raki brand.
