Many of the major roads leading from Turkey’s borders with Greece and Bulgaria have been blocked or badly affected by the heavy snowfalls in the region, with long delays on roads throughout the region.
In the province of Ederne, more than 150 villages have been cut off by snow falls, with 60 of them also experiencing black outs. The road between Turkey’s Ipsala border gate with Greece and Kesan has been cut, halting international traffic.
The main highway linking the European provinces with the crossing points at Gelibolu and Eceabat over the Dardanelles Strait to the Asian region of the country has also been blocked by snow, though ferries are still running.
In the Malkara, Hayrabolu ve Sarkoy districts, near the Marmara Sea, another 70 villages are cut off, with a further 110 isolated in the Tekidag region.
Roads traffic between the provincial capital of Çanakkale on the Asian side of the Dardanelles with the towns of Biga, Ayvacik, Ezine, Bayramic, and Can has also been disrupted.
