Papadopulos threatens to veto Turkey accession talks
The Greek Cypriot leader avoided commenting whether he would to take parts in talks to resolve the Cyprus question, saying it was too early to comment.

In comments published by a Greek Cypriot newspaper Thursday, Tasos Papadopulos said that the veto would be applied if Ankara does not sign the Ankara protocol by the date to open talks, 3 October 2005. The protocol is recognition of all of the EU member states, including the Greek Cypriot administration. Ankara does not recognise the Greek Cypriot state and has refused to do so.
Papadopulos also said the plan for reunification of the two states on the island drafted by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and which was rejected by the Greek Cypriot side in a referendum on April 24 was not open for further discussion.
The paper reported that Papadopulos had set out four “nos” in respect to the resolving of the Cyprus question in the Greek Cypriot National Council held on Wednesday.
The four objections laid down by Papadopulos were refusing to accept a mediator, not accepting a calendar, not accepting the Cyprus question being linked to the date of opening negotiation talks with Turkey and not holding a referendum on agreed deal.
