Nizammetin Bilir was killed in clashes in Filfil, near to the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Tuesday. Bilirm, 46, was from the southern Turkish town of Hatay and was employed on transporting prefabricated construction material at the time of his death.
However, the situation for Turkish drivers working in Iraq is reported to be strangled in the Zaho region of northern Iraq, according to drivers talking to the NTV news channel. Turkish drivers have claimed that Northern Iraqi militiamen have blocked up to 1000 drivers from returning to Turkey for more than a week.
The drivers have called on the Turkish state to assist them in their plight. Foreign Ministry officials said that the incidents stemmed from a disagreement between Americans and the transport companies carrying goods into Iraq last week. The officials said that the drivers could enter Iraq under the protection provided by the USA or freely return to Turkey.
