In the final scenes of the movie, the horse was used by the Greeks as a ploy to enter the fabled city of Troy, which had withstood a siege of ten years. Now Turkey is hoping that the horse will inspire tourists to come to the actual scene of the legendary war.
Ulgur Gokhan Saricay, the mayor of the city of Canakkale, located some 40 kilometres from ancient Troy, has arranged to have the replica horse transported to Turkey, with delivery expected in August.
As there is already another model of the Trojan Horse located at the site of the ancient city it is exacted that the second horse would be placed in the city of Canakkale itself.
Visitor numbers to Troy have boomed since the release in May of the movie starring US heart throb Brad Pitt.
