It the coalition protocol between the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), led by Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat, and the Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denkta? Democrat Party (DP), released Monday, the main objective set out was reaching a settlement of the Cyprus dispute before May through negotiations on the basis of the proposals put forward by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. The protocol also declared that the two parties were in agreement on holding a referendum on a settlement plan to a referendum. The CTP-DP coalition government also pledged to initiate legal and administrative reform drive to harmonise and restructure the TRNC state in line with EU standards. However, any settlement had to enshrine the guarantor rights of Turkey on Cyprus, as set out in existing international agreements. Negotiations with the Greek Cypriot administration would be continued by President Rauf Denkta? representing the TRNC, working in harmony with the government, the protocol said. The protocol stressed that the new government would work to achieve full integration of Northern Cyprus, which has been under an international economic and political embargo, with the global economy. | ||||
