Muzhir El Dileymi, who was in Damascus to lobby for Turkish forces to be committed to serving in Iraq, warned that the country could be divided into three separate entities unless Ankara sent troops.
“Unless Turkish troops come Iraq will be separated,” he told private Turkish television station NTV in an exclusive interview.
Speaking on the sidelines of a summit of regional Foreign Ministers held in the Syrian capital over the weekend to discuss the situation in Iraq, El Dileymi said he told Syrian Foreign Minister Faruk El Shara that the Sunnis wanted the presence of Turkish troops in Iraq.
“I have told them that Kurds want to divide Iraq,” he said.
He said that to counter this threat it was crucial that Turkish soldiers came to his country as they are in favour of a one country from Zaho to Basra.
