The head of TÜSİAD said that no groups in Iraq wanted Turkish troops to be sent to their country.
September 19— Turkey should request the United Nations to vote on a resolution sanctioning the deployment of foreign peace keepers in Iraq before Ankara considers contributing troops to the international stability force, according to the head of Turkey’s leading business lobby groups.

Speaking at an executive board meeting for the influential Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen Association (TÜSİAD), chairman Tuncay Özilhan said that the decision to send troops to Iraq could drag Turkey into an difficult situation. He stressed Turkey should only take part in any contingent in Iraq if there was a UN resolution and with the aim providing humanitarian aid and making a contribution to democracy in Iraq.
He also warned that there was very little support for the proposal to deploy Turkish troops in Iraq.
“Moreover, there is no sympathetic view reflected from any circles in Iraq towards the idea of Turkish troops… Under such a climate it does not seem very meaningful to expect that Turkish soldiers could contribute to establish stability in Iraq,” he said.
Özilhan also said that the possibility of holding an early general election was a burden that Turkey could not carry.
