| | | The speaker of the Greek parliament, Apostolos Kaklamanis, said that the legislature would mark April 24 as Armenian Genocide Day. In an address he gave on Monday, Kaklamanis compared the tragedy of the Armenian people to the current situation facing the Palestinian and Iraq nations.
Turkey strongly denies claims that the Ottoman Empire carried out any so-called genocide against the Christian Armenians, backing up its defence with evidence of Armenian massacres of Turkish civilians in the years 1915 to 1918.
Kaklamanis said that the killings of Armenians would remain as a black page and inerasable stain on Turkeys history.
The Armenian genocide is a debt that Turkey has not repaid to the humanity, he said.
