| June 25 — İzmir Police Department Chief Hasan Yücesan announced today that another oil painting by the renowned Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, “Dora-Maar,” had been confiscated in İzmir. Yücesan said two people had been detained in the operation to recover the art work and that another two people were still being sought. | |||

| Another painting by Picasso, “La Fermiere,” was found in İzmir in the beginning of June. “La Fermiere,” which it is said will be exhibited at the Ankara Art and Sculpture Museum, is 81 x 56 cm and was produced by the artist in 1908. It had been recorded as part of the collection at the Modern Western Art Museum in Russia in 1918. The painting’s origins were traced, revealing a long chain of smuggling which saw it taken from Russia to Berlin, and then to Kuwait, Iraq, Moscow again and finally to Turkey. |
