| | | The police are seeking a ruling on whether the speech given by Chomsky on Thursday, as a seminar organised by the Democracy Platform, contained comments supporting the establishment of a Kurdish state and for education in Kurdish.
Both are in contradiction of existing Turkish law and, if Chomskys speech was found to have breached these laws, charges could be laid against him. If so, it would be the second court case that the internationally known linguist and philosopher, would have been linked with since his arrival in Turkey three days ago.
The publisher of a book of essays by Chomsky was been acquitted on Wednesday of charges of distributing anti-Turkish and separatist propaganda. Chomsky was present for the hearing, though the court rejected his demand to be put on trial for his writings.
