| | | The attempt to censure the Economy Minister has been tabled by the conservative pro-Islamist opposition Prosperity Party (SP), which claims that Derviş is primarily to blame for the downturn in the Turkish economy.
Under Turkish parliamentary by-laws, parliament must first vote on whether to debate any censure motion. With the coalition government of Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit commanding a comfortable majority, it is unlikely that the motion will be carried.
Parliament is also scheduled to review a proposal to extend for another four months the state of emergency rule in a number of provinces in the south east.
